People asked me what I do in winter when there’s no baseball. I’ll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring. Rogers Hornsby
While pondering the viciousness of the recent polar vortex and ensuing snow, I realized all was not lost, that the end of winter is just around the corner. NCAA baseball is upon us. Washington & Lee has already begun the 2016 season with a 3-0 sweep of St. Marys (Md). VMI begins along with all Division I schools on February 19 in Winston Salem, NC. Their first home game is scheduled here in Lexington at Gray-Minor Stadium where every seat offers a birds eye view of the playing field. The same can be said for W&L’s Cap’n Dick Smith Field. Catch a sunny afternoon home game sometime. These guys play good old fashioned hard ball in very competitive collegiate conferences. Spring is on the way. -Rodger
That’s the true harbinger of spring, not crocuses or swallow returning to Capistrano, but the sound of a bat on a ball – Bill Veeck
And a final one while we’re having fun!
