Raised in Albemarle County, Rodger attended UVA and then pursued a career playing profession polo. This livelihood spanned over 20 years and included tournaments throughout the country and overseas. In 1994 Rodger moved back to Virginia to work in the family business; Augusta Block in Staunton, VA. When the company sold ten years later Rodger began to actively engage in real estate, joining wife Susan, first with Mead Associates and now with J.F. Brown Real Estate Services. In 2017 Rodger, along with two ambitious Washington & Lee students, helped revive the W&L Polo program. In a short span of time the club was off and running, actively recruiting new players and horses for the team to practice. Rodger’s involvement includes membership on the board of the Generals Polo Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation, coaching, advising, and transporting horses when needed. His greatest rewards are getting back in the saddle and teaching young players the game, umpiring Sunday matches at King Family Vineyard, and scrimmaging again with teammates from the past.
