Jess grew up splitting time between Greensboro, North Carolina and Fredericksburg, Virginia. She graduated from The University of Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies. During her many years as a camper and counselor at Camp Mont Shenandoah in Millboro Springs, Jess fell in love with the Shenandoah Valley. She returned to Virginia after college to teach in the Northern Neck and Richmond before moving home to the mountains. She met her husband, Lee, at a summer camp dance, and now helps the McLaughlin family direct Camp Maxwelton for Boys and Camp Lachlan for Girls in Rockbridge Baths. In her free time Jess loves to paint, ride their horses, and explore the valley with her family and their dog Harlan.
